 | 15th Nov 2009 | Veteran Fours Head 2009
Such a long, long way. The Veteran Fours Head runs over the Boat Race course (but with the tide, fortunately) and it really is challenging. Still, a good row especially having had to swap Tim in for Simon at the last minute.
61st overall and fifth (of eight) in Vet C category. Really pleased and showing definite progress as a crew

 | 1st Nov 2009 | Upper Thames Head 2009
Four boats out in quite horrid conditions, two Ladies fours, Paul and Josh in an IM3 double and Steve and I in a Vet D double.
Pretty good times from all of us although well beaten in each category. The ladies performed very well, considering they were "rowing up" at IM1 and IM2 with what are IM3 crews.
Steve and I had the odd experience of overtaking Paul and Josh - twice! The weather levelled off their better power and our greater experience paid off

 | 17th Oct 2009 | Pairs Head 2009
Such a long, long way! 4k on the Tideway is bad enough but rowing back was murder (having boated at Tideway Scullers).
Not quite the calm, sunny conditions of last year; the Thames was decidedly choppy and rough. This made for some difficult sculling but (despite Steve not being 100%) we didn't come last in Vet D, beating one crew.
A great feeling to have done this but feeling it the day after...

 | 11th Oct 2009 | Bedford Autumn Small Boats Head 2009
No wins at today's Bedford Autumn Head but not too disappointed. Some very strong performances, mainly from the Womens' Squad - no less than FIVE fours out, using different combinations. Highest placed was the W.IM2 4+, coming second.
Good rows too from Paul and Josh on their racing début at Nov 2x and our Quad showing progress by splitting the two Guildford crews to come third. Steve and Clare had an event free row and nice to see junior crews back and racing too.
|
 | 4th Oct 2009 | St Neots Head 2009
First head race of the season saw another great win from the Women's Squad. Racing at IM2 for the first time (and despite three of them suffering colds) the first crew powered through to win by 5 seconds.
Only two other boats out, a second WIM2 and MXd Vet C, with Clare and Steve making a racing debut together

 | 13th Sep 2009 | Cambridge Autumn Regatta 2009
Nice to see out the regatta season with a final pair of wins. These came from the Women's CRA Eight (pots but no pints!) giving a first win for "John Cunningham" and on only their second regatta race in the eight and a Mixed IM3 4+.
Notable for Tim's first pots with us and Lindy's last (hopefully only temporarily, while she's at Uni) plus Steph's first coxing pot.

 | 22nd Aug 2009 | Warwick Regatta 2009
Back to winning ways for the Womens Squad at the wonderful Warwick Regatta. Possibly our visit to this event, but one we'll be back for. The course is challenging but run just downstream fro Warwick Castle (which you can see from the start). Run as a Primary Regatta, there were no points so less pressure and guaranteed crews at least two races.
The WIM3 4+ (slightly changed from normal with Lou stepping in) saw off Evesham A and B in the heat and then doubled up on Evesham B in the final. Our other two boats (John in a J16 1x and Tim and I in our first race together as IM3 2x-) didn't do so well, both failing to get through the fist round

 | 25th Jul 2009 to 26th Jul 2009 | St Neots Summer Regatta 2009
Looking for the positives from this week-end, it shows how much we've come along as a club as we were all disappointed to come away with no pots from St. Neots.
Saturday saw the IM3 4+ women go down to the Broxbourne boat they beat at Bedford, the IM2 (!) 4x crew were well beaten (why SNRC put us in at that level is a mystery anyway) and Steve and I were beaten by a strong Peterborough double. The first eight of the week-end saw MKRC debuts for Tim, Stuart and Alex
Sunday saw a very unlucky Womens Novice 4+ crew suffer a boat stopping crab in the second round, while leading. The (really pleased to see this) Womens EIGHT lost a terribly close final to Barnes Bridge Ladies, having beaten Maidstone Invicta in the semi. The other crews (Mixed 4x and Vet D 2x-) also lost out.
|
 | 12th Jul 2009 | Bedford Quarts Regatta 2009
Another big win for the Womens IM3 4+ boat today. Despite losing Lindy back to Zimbabwe, Paula stepped in and they won all three rounds convincingly to take home the Quart pots.
Steve and I were outclassed, having to row at IM2 as no Vet competition and we struggled in the Quad but lost by just one length to Lincoln
|
 | 10th Jul 2009 | Henley Veteran's Regatta 2009
Great day out at the Henley Veteran's Regatta. Neither of our two crews (Steve and I as Vet D 2x- and Charlene, Paula, Helen and Becks with Jo coxing as Vet B 4+) made it past the first round, unfortunately.
Steve and I showed progress by losing to Nemesis by just 3/4 length (as opposed to 3 1/2 lengths over a shorter distance at Cambridge!) but the girls put in a good row but still finished well down on Nottingham
|
 | 14th Jun 2009 | National Veteran Rowing Championships 2009
Our first visit to the Nat Vets. Agony for the Womens Vet B IM3 4+ crew, who came second by just half a second to Eton Excelsior.
The Vet C Quad came last of four while the Vet D Open 2x finished 3rd

 | 13th Jun 2009 to 14th Jun 2009 | Star Regatta 2009
Crews out on both days at this year's Star Regatta. No wins on Saturday from the Seniors (Womens IM3 4+, IM2 2x-, Vet B 4x- or IM2 2-) but two Junior wins. Sunday was better with wins for a Senior Mixed IM3 4+ crew and for the junior quad.
Just a few photos today - I spent most of the day sculling or coxing!
Following my de-novicing at Peterborough, Steve and I now have to row at IM2 - scary!

 | 6th Jun 2009 to 7th Jun 2009 | Peterborough Spring Regatta 2009
Saturday (1k) saw a number of good performances, especially the Men's IM3 4+ crew who pipped Norwich to win their heat and get to the final, but no wins.
Sunday was a different story with two crews dominating their events to win. First there was the Women's IM3 4+ crew (who'd done so well at the Met last week) - the only crew to go under 2 minutes, which they did in all three rounds. Equally impressive were Pierre-Yves and I in the Vet Novice 2x, winning from the front in both the round and the final, to de-novice as well!
|
 | 31st May 2009 | Metropolitan Regatta 2009
The Women's first time out at the Met saw two IM3 4+ boats racing. The first crew off dominated their heat, winning easily to proceed to the final. The other crew wasn't so fortunate, their preparation being upset by an unfair warning. This disrupted their start and they weren't able to recover, coming in last in their heat.
In the final, the first crew fought well, lying second at halfway before two crews rowed through them, leaving them to finish fourth. They placed as the second club crew in the event, a really impressive result

 | 10th May 2009 | Cambridge Spring Regatta 2009
Just Steve and I out today as a Vet D double. After a poor start and scrappy first couple of hundred meters we settled and started to come back at our opponents but left it too late over a 450 meter race
